This Sunday (09.09), President Dilma Rousseff congratulated the Brazilian athletes who took part in the London Paralympic Games through an official note. See the note in full below:
"On behalf of all Brazilians, I would like to congratulate the valuable athletes who represented Brazil at the London Paralympic Games, which finished this Sunday. Thanks to your strength, backbone and ability to overcome limits, we have reached, for the first time ever, the seventh position, winning 43 medals - 21 gold, 14 silver and 8 bronze.
The first ever victory in the marathon this morning by Tito Sena; the 6 gold medals won by swimmer Daniel Dias; and Brazil?s triple podium in the 100m with Terezinha Guilhermina, Jerusa Santos and Jhulia Karol are some of the achievements that made us proud in London.
However, it is important to say that each of our Paralympic athletes who were in London, regardless of whether they won any medals, represent a story of determination and perseverance, and are an example to the whole country.
It is also with immense satisfaction that I was able to see the results of the support of the Brazilian government at these Paralympic Games, through the beneficiaries of the Athlete Grant Programme. The programme supports 156 out of the 182 athletes in our delegation, many of whom are coming home from London victorious with their medals. The Brazilian government will intensify the support to its athletes so that an ever higher number of them may be able to train and dedicate themselves to sport.
We are proud of all of you, Brazilian athletes at the Paralympic Games."
