COB assesses performance of Brazilian delegation in London

The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) assessed the performance of the Brazilian delegation in the Olympic Games in London this Sunday (12.08), in a press conference held at Casa Brasil in the British capital. "We prepared as best as we could, offering our athletes services similar to those offered by the great powers: Crystal Palace, the sport science elements, acclimatisation and medicine", explained COB President Carols Arthur Nuzman.

The conference was also attended by the COB Executive Superintendent of Sports Marcus Vinícius Freire and the head of the Brazilian mission in London, Bernard Rajzman.

For Marcus Vinícius, Brazil's performance has raised some points for attention, such as the number of finals the country was in, which went from 41 in Beijing to 35 in London.  "We had anticipated around 15 medals. The expectations were met and the number of medals won were what we expected. The number of finals we were in is a point for attention. The positive highlights were the first gold medal in women?s judo, the first Olympic medal in gymnastics, the record number of medals in judo, volleyball with four medals and the record achieved in boxing", explained Marcus Vinícius.

In relation to the target of placing Brazil in the group of the top ten sport powers in the world by the Olympic Games in 2016, President Nuzman emphasised the national effort for reaching the objective. "Work for 2016 has already started and we want to make it very clear that we are working together with the Brazilian confederations, the Ministry of Sport and the whole of the federal government. Our relation with the Ministry, through the High Performance Secretariat is excellent. We have been working together throughout this time and we shall enhance the training structure to offer better conditions to our athletes", said Nuzman.
