Boxer Yamaguchi Falcão, age twenty-four, has guaranteed another bronze medal for Brazil this Wednesday (08.08) in the 81kg category. The Brazilian beat Cuban boxer Julio la Cruz Peraza 18-15 in the boxing quarter-final. In the semi-final, Yamaguchi will face Russian Egorr Mekontcev on Friday (10.08), at 18.00 (Brazil time). The victory has guaranteed the third podium for Brazil in the sport at the London Games.

The Brazilian beat the current world champion, ranked first in the category. The first round of the fight ended in a 4-4 draw. In the second, the Brazilian was better than the Cuban and won it 6-5, leaving the overall score at 10-9. In the last round, Yamaguchi consolidated the victory with a score of 8-6, winning the fight 18-15.

Yamaguchi?s brother, boxer Esquiva Falcão has also guaranteed a medal for Brazil in the 75kg category. The athlete made it to the podium after winning the fight against Hungaria Zoltan Harcsa 14-10.

"The excellent performance of our athletes in London is the result of the work being done by CBBoxe's technical staff, with assistance from COB and also official sponsorship from PETROBRAS through the Sports Incentive Law and the Ministry of Sport, who have provided the necessary investments, which allowed athletes to have better training conditions, a multidisciplinary commission, medical and dental insurance, food vouchers, scholarships and grants paid in values similar to the Athlete Grant Programme.  However, the most important aspect was the fact that we had the biggest number of athletes ever taking part in international tournaments and training bases in other countries, which has resulted in more experienced athletes", informed the Brazilian Boxing Confederation (CBBoxe) through a statement.
