Young talent make the most of the acclimatisation period in London as preparation for 2016

When Bernardo de Souza shot the bow for the first time, at age eleven, he did not imagine that at nineteen, he would be able to experience the Olympic environment so close, in London. The athlete is one of the young Brazilians with potential to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and is part of the Olympic Experience Project (Projeto Vivência Olímpica). "It is very gratifying to have been chosen to take part in this programme. It is as if I am being acknowledged for everything I have done until today. It is a great honour to be here and experience the Olympic vibe closely", commented Bernardo.

The initiative is part of the Rio 2016 Generation, which has anticipated the Olympic experience for 16 young athletes. Designed by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the project is aimed only at athletes from individual sport, or those played in doubles. The performance at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, world championships and ranking were used as selection criteria.

Chosen in 2009 as the best athlete of the Americas, Lais Nunes Oliveira, age nineteen, is the representative of the Olympic wrestling in COB?s project.  The wrestler started in the sport in the town of Bairro Alto in the state of Goiás and today, is Brazil's only three-time Pan American champion in Olympic wrestling. In London, the athlete is mirroring herself in Joice Silva, the only Brazilian athlete competing in the sport.

"I believe that I?m on the right path and that in 2016 I will represent my country on the circular mat. Today, I am only feeling and living the Olympic vibe. Tomorrow I believe that I will be there competing and living this experience again", said Lais. For 2012, her main goal is to win the medal at the Junior World Championship, which will be held in September in Thailand.

At the British capital, the athletes' routines include training, following the training for the sport, visits to the gymnasiums to follow the competitions, visits to the Olympic Village and Casa Brasil, as well as contact with the press. In sum anything that may anticipate, in terms of experience, an edition of the Olympic Games.
