Minister signs partnership agreement in sport science with Sheffield Hallam University

At the end of the morning of this Tuesday (31.07, London time), the Minister of Sport Aldo Rebelo and the Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, Philip Jones, signed a memorandum of understanding in the area of sport science. Initially, the agreement will be valid for four years, with the possibility of being extended.

"Sheffield Hallam University has had a lot of achievements in subjects related to sport and its excellence is renowned in the United Kingdom and internationally. I believe that Brazil has some way to go in relation to experience, particularly in the organisation of both big events: the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games", explained Aldo Rebelo.

In addition to academic exchange with the university, the activities will focus on the collaboration between both entities for the development of services for top Brazilian athletes, such as sport psychology, physiotherapy, biomechanics, physiology, strength and physical condition, as well as nutrition: and the use of technological systems that analyse athletes? performance.

"Last year we had the judo team over and since then we have been closer to Brazil. The university already works with several expert areas and will be able to assist athletes in winning more medals, except against Great Britain", joked the Chair of the Academy of Sport & Physical Activity of Sheffield Hallam University, Guy Masterman. Activities should start soon. "We are already planning our visit to Brazil in November", he added.

Athletes, technical staff, universities and professionals of the several subjects related to sport, marketing and sport management will benefit from the agreement. "I think that the partnership will open a path for progress and development that will mean a lot of benefits for Brazil", added the Minister.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were the International Advisor of the Ministry of Sport Ana Prestes; the Chair of the Academy of Sport & Physical Activity of Sheffield Hallam University, Guy Masterman; the Head of Marketing of the University Jennie Homer; and the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, John Palmer.
